Better Eye Sight

It's difficult to argue against the human eye being a truly amazing aspect of our anatomy. It's simply a
combination of parts, such as the cornea, sclera and retina, that give us nothing short of the breathtaking ability
to view the world around us in its full technicolor. There are, however, instances where the human eye does
not function at is true potential, and for better eyesight we must undertake action to help it along.

One such example of a common eye disorder is Keratoconus, or conical cornea. It occurs when the front region of
the eyeball becomes conical in shape, and is believed to be a progressive stage of either myopia or astigmatism. A technique employing the use of
relaxation of the eye, such as those used in the Bates Method,
or variations therof, can be helpful in alleviating this eye disorder, as it is thought to relieve the pressure
placed upon the eyeball.
Another instance of an eye disorder which can be helped by natural methods is Macular Degeneration. This
condition usually affects the elderly and is due to damage to the retina, resulting in a loss of vision in the
center of the visual field. The root causes of this disease, however, are lack of exercise, smoking, a lack of
ability to deal with life's stress, as well as a variety of other lifestyle and genetic factors. The Bates Method technique of shifting one's focus in a "swaying" motion can
help with this particular disorder, in that it improves circulation to the eyeball by relaxing and relieving
strain.
Ocular headache is an eye disorder which can cause the sufferer severe pain around or behind the eye. It is
believed to stem from tension wihin the eye muscles themselves. This condition can also be accompanied by a retinal
or ocular migraine, whereby there is an infarct or vascular spasm behind the eye.
The Bates Method suggests their visual technique to help ease this ailment, in that it halps to
relieve the stress and tension placed upon the eye. The Bates Method and its modern day variations ask
you focus on an imaginary object, one which is commonly where you would naturally settle your gaze, while your eyes
are closed, then look in the opposite direction. Repetition of this "movement" excercise will aid in pain relief
without having to result to using pills or other medications.
Contrary to some practitioners current beliefs, there are natural ways to alleviate eye conditons and disorders,
ones which don't involve surgery or medical interventions. The Bates
Method employs techniques and exercises that can help your eyesight achieve its true
potential, simply by focusing on the body's innate ability to heal itself and have better eyes sight.
